As I took my first steps towards the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, little did I know about the surprise-in-store waiting for me. The long, lush-green, stone finish walk-ways greeted me; one could feel the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi in the air; the Mahatma statue; the earthen Registration and Ticketing Counters; and the local attire and flavour all around aroused a compelling, unusual curiosity with me.
The moment I entered the main Plenary Hall, I was simply astonished. It took me a few minutes to look around – visualize – and embrace the complete MICE venue – the largest pillar-less, state-of-art MICE facility in India. Something like this – the 34-acre, 20,000 sq.mtr of Convention and Exhibition area, I had not seen in India before.
The head-table for the Conference (a government Tourism conference that I was visiting) had 30 seats, something again I had never-ever imagined could be; the humongous backdrop; the floral arrangement; and the 6,000-odd delegates together under one-roof; it was all just stunning. I had to pinch myself, and great it wasn’t a dream. I was highly impressed with the MICE venue.
Many years back, as I was writing my first book on MICE, I had mentioned will this be possible in India, and here I was experiencing the same. It was nothing but a dream come true, of the MICE vision I had seen for India. How glad, how happy I am! Well done MICE INDIA, well done.
